Man, I remember like it was yesterday—when I first started this business, it was feast or famine… but mostly famine.
That first year? It takes grit, it takes courage, and it definitely takes some hustle. You’re out here sweating, freezing, maybe even throwing a little starter fluid in the diesel just to crank it up like I did on this chilly 45-degree morning. But if you push through those early days, stay consistent, and play the long game, there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
Today's Job: A Gift with Some Glue
We’re on a pretty simple job today—a little driveway, some patio areas, front walk and porch. The whole job was actually a gift from a buddy of mine (he owns the black house next door in the video). During construction on his place, a bunch of dust and glue got flung onto his neighbor’s concrete. He wanted to do the neighbor a solid and get it cleaned up.
Here's what we knocked out:
-
Applied Dynamite Degreaser to the front walk and driveway
-
Removed construction glue off the patio
-
Rinsed the back deck and front porch (didn’t move furniture—liability, ya know)
-
Used a ball valve to rinse off debris and clean up the edges
This job ran about $600 in an hour and a half. Simple, clean, and rewarding.
A Word for the New Guys Out There 👊
If you’re just getting started—listen up.
Those early days are tough. You don’t have leads. You don’t have social proof. Nobody knows who you are.
You’re probably out here:
-
Doing small $200 jobs
-
Fighting frozen lines
-
Figuring out how to price
-
Wondering how the hell to get consistent work
The truth? Most guys don’t make it through that first year. Not because they’re not good—but because they don’t have a system. They’re hustling in all directions with no roadmap.
That’s why I always recommend the SESW Softwash 101 course to any beginner out here trying to get serious.
📚 Why Softwash 101 Is a Game Changer
Softwash 101 by SESW is hands-down one of the most beginner-friendly, no-BS entry points into this industry.
If you want to:
-
Learn softwashing from a real-world perspective
-
Understand equipment, chemicals, surfaces, and techniques
-
Get a handle on business setup and marketing fundamentals
-
Avoid expensive mistakes and wasted time
Then Softwash 101 is the class you need. I’ve seen way too many guys burn out trying to learn this stuff piecemeal from YouTube rabbit holes and Facebook groups.
This course gives you a foundation. Whether you’re adding softwash to your pressure washing business or starting fresh—it’ll save you time, money, and headaches.
Bonus Resource: The Six-Figure Framework
And while I’m at it… if you’ve already got a few jobs under your belt and you’re trying to scale up, check out the Six-Figure Framework course that I put together with Mike and Justin.
Mike’s been in the game 20 years. The tactics in that course are what he still uses today in a 7-figure business. It’s all about knowing:
-
Where the best customers are
-
How to target them
-
And how to convert them efficiently
We kind of undersold it with the name—these same methods can take you to seven figures if you’re consistent and committed.
Wrap-Up
This job today wasn’t glamorous. But it was solid. And if you’re just starting out, let me tell you—solid work, done consistently, adds up fast.
The first year will test you. But if you keep pushing, keep learning, and keep investing in your education, you’ll go from famine… to full schedule.
So if you're just getting your feet wet:
-
Take the SESW Softwash 101 course
-
Soak up every bit of knowledge you can
-
And don’t forget—this ain’t a race. It’s a business.
Let’s get it, y’all.
See you on the next one.
Let me know if you want this turned into a downloadable PDF for email or a blog graphic to promote the course—happy to help.
