WOOD CLEANING
What is the best way to clean a fence?
Mix Wood Wizard at a 4:1 ratio — 4 parts water to 1 part Wood Wizard.
Apply the solution evenly to the fence and allow it to dwell for 20 minutes, keeping the surface wet with the solution during the entire dwell time.
Rinse thoroughly using a pressure washer set to low pressure.
How much does fence cleaning cost?
Fence cleaning typically costs $0.50–$2.50 per linear foot or $0.10–$0.65 per square foot, depending on size, material, and condition. Most residential jobs range from $200 to $600, with larger or heavily soiled fences costing more. Wood fences generally cost more to clean than vinyl or metal due to the cleaning process required.
Is it okay to pressure wash wood?
Yes, but it must be done carefully.
Wood can be pressure washed if you use low pressure (typically 500–1,200 PSI), a wider spray tip (25° or 40°), and keep the wand moving to avoid gouging or furring the wood. For fences and decks, a soft wash with chemicals and a low-pressure rinse is usually safer and produces better long-term results than high pressure alone.
What should you not use to clean decking?
Do not use high pressure, as it can gouge, splinter, and permanently damage the wood fibers.
Avoid straight household bleach or harsh chlorine mixes without proper dilution and surfactants, since they can dry out wood, cause premature graying, and damage nearby plants.
Also stay away from wire brushes or metal tools, which can scar the surface and leave metal fragments that cause rust stains.
