Google Suspended My Business Profile! Here's Why

...

If you’re a contractor, your Google Business Profile (GBP) is a goldmine for leads. Ranking in the Google 3-pack with solid reviews can generate a steady stream of calls and inquiries. But what happens when Google suddenly suspends your profile?

It’s a catastrophic event. Your leads vanish overnight, and sometimes, you’re not even notified.

Today, I’m joined by Chris Lwan from Footbridge Media to discuss the top three reasons Google suspends business profiles—and what you can do about it. Plus, if you’re serious about growing your business, make sure to check out the Serious Starter Softwash Boot Camp with Aaron Parker on March 21-22, 2025!

1. Using Spammy Business Names

One of the most common reasons Google suspends profiles is using spammy or misleading business names.

What Not to Do:

  • Adding keywords or emojis to your name (e.g., "Pressure Washing Miami $$$")

  • Using non-official business names (e.g., "Best Pressure Washing Near Me")

  • Trying to game the system by stuffing keywords into your profile name

Google is cracking down harder than ever. Even legitimate businesses with keyword-rich names may need to verify their business license with Google.

How to Avoid This Mistake:

  • Use your real business name—exactly as registered.

  • Avoid unnecessary symbols, emojis, or extra keywords.

  • If your legal business name contains keywords, have your business license ready in case you need to verify.

2. Fake Reviews and Ratings

Google is doubling down on fake reviews, and if they catch you engaging in spammy review practices, your profile could be soft suspended or permanently deleted.

Risky Review Practices:

  • Buying fake reviews from shady companies

  • Review rings (where businesses leave fake reviews for each other)

  • Encouraging customers to leave reviews from your business Wi-Fi (Google may flag multiple reviews from the same IP address as spam)

Google has both algorithmic and manual methods to detect fake reviews. Even legitimate reviews may get deleted as collateral damage.

Best Practices for Reviews:

  • Use an automated review management system to request reviews via text and email.

  • Encourage customers to leave reviews from their personal devices (not your business Wi-Fi).

  • Avoid shortcuts—it’s better to have fewer, high-quality, authentic reviews.

3. Making Core Changes to Your Google Business Profile

Changing key details in your profile can trigger a re-verification process or even a suspension.

What Are "Core Changes"?

  • Business name

  • Address (especially moving locations)

  • Phone number

  • Website URL

  • Business categories

Google treats these as high-risk updates, and if not handled correctly, your profile could be suspended.

How to Prevent a Suspension:

  • Avoid unnecessary changes—only update when absolutely needed.

  • If you must update your address, be prepared to verify with documentation.

  • Work with a trusted marketing team like Footbridge Media to ensure the process goes smoothly.

What to Do If Your Profile Gets Suspended

If your GBP is suspended, don’t panic.

Steps to Recover:

  1. Do NOT appeal the suspension yourself—if you make an error, Google may refuse to work with anyone else on your behalf.

  2. Contact your marketing professional (like Footbridge Media) for help.

  3. Be patient—reinstatement isn’t guaranteed, but working with experts increases your chances.

Final Thoughts: Protect Your Lead Flow

Google suspensions are preventable if you follow best practices. Avoid spammy business names, fake reviews, and unnecessary changes to your profile.
