How to Remove Efflorescence
Hey guys, Cody from Southeast Softwash here! It’s January 4th, and we’re kicking off 2023 with an exciting new product—Efflo-Go. After months of research and development, we’ve fine-tuned this powerful chemical to help you eliminate one of the most stubborn stains in exterior cleaning: efflorescence.
Today, we’re at a job site for a final demonstration before launching Efflo-Go on our website in the next two weeks. If you’re in the industry, you’ve definitely encountered efflorescence before. It’s that white, chalky residue on masonry surfaces like walls, patios, and retaining walls. Let’s dive into what it is, why it’s tough to remove, and how Efflo-Go is the solution you’ve been waiting for.
Understanding Efflorescence
Efflorescence is a term used to describe various types of mineral deposits that appear on masonry surfaces. These stains form when water evaporates, leaving behind dissolved salts and other minerals. There are two main types:
-
Primary Efflorescence: Minerals leach from inside the structure and rise to the surface, often through mortar joints.
-
Secondary Efflorescence: External factors, like water sources containing chemicals, deposit minerals onto surfaces. This is common on fountains and subdivision entrance signs.
Regardless of the type, efflorescence doesn’t budge with traditional pressure washing. That’s why you need a specialized chemical like Efflo-Go.
Why Efflo-Go is a Game-Changer
We’ve tested Efflo-Go on some of the toughest jobs, including the dumpster pad enclosure at today’s demo site. This product is formulated specifically for efflorescence removal and offers several benefits:
-
Highly Effective: Efflo-Go breaks down mineral deposits quickly, making cleaning easier and more efficient.
-
Safe to Use: It contains buffering agents, so there are minimal fumes. Plus, it’s safe for glass and aluminum trim when used properly.
-
Versatile Application: You can apply it with a pump-up sprayer or soft wash system. In some cases, light pressure may help, but often, no pressure washing is needed at all.
Live Demo Results
During today’s test, we treated a wall that had severe efflorescence buildup. We had already cleaned another section during a previous visit, so this was a great opportunity to show Efflo-Go in action.
Application Process:
-
Pre-wet the surface – This prevents excessive chemical absorption.
-
Apply Efflo-Go – A light, even coat is all that’s needed.
-
Let it sit for 5-10 minutes – This allows the chemical to break down the deposits.
-
Rinse thoroughly – We used a 12-volt system instead of a pressure washer.
-
Evaluate and reapply if needed – Stubborn spots may require additional coats.
The results were incredible! The treated wall looked brand new, with only one small stubborn spot needing a second pass. For most jobs, you’ll be in and out even quicker, since this was one of the worst cases of efflorescence we’ve ever seen.
